Short Bio

Dr. Paul J. Arciero (“Dr. Paul”), FACSM, FTOS, FISSN, is a leading international keynote speaker and author, and is a Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and The Obesity Society and serves as a scientific advisory board member to the nutrition, fitness, health, and wellness industries. Dr. Paul was recently appointed to the International Protein Board, a 15 member board of the leading protein scientists in the world. He is a leading expert in nutrition and fitness lifestyle interventions to optimize health and physical performance.

He has published more than 58 peer-reviewed research studies on performance nutrition and exercise training in the world’s most respected science journals, including: Obesity Journal, Frontiers in Physiology, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, American Journal of Physiology, Metabolism: Clinical & Experimental, Nutrients, Journal of Applied Physiology, European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. His research has been extensively funded by the leading government agencies, philanthropic organizations and nutrition companies. Most impressive, several of Dr. Paul’s publications have attained the coveted “classic” status, being referenced by other scientists at least 100 times in peer-reviewed science/medical journals. One of Dr. Paul’s most important scientific discoveries was the observation that consuming the right type, amount and timing of protein with and without exercise training, reduces total body and abdominal fat to a greater extent than three “traditional” higher carbohydrate meals per day.

This work was published in the Obesity Journal in 2013 and Journal of Applied Physiology in 2014 and led to the terms “Protein Pacing®” and the “PRISE® Protocol”, as well as numerous additional peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Paul’s work is extensively cited in medical publications such as, the American Heart Association (American Heart Association & Dr. Paul; You’re_the_cure_Dr. Paul ), Duke Medicine Health News, Science Daily, and Villanova COPE as well as mainstream popular media, including: The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Prevention, Good Housekeeping, WebMD, O Magazine, TIME, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, SELF, Glamour, Shape, Health, Women’s Health, Women’s World, Muscle and Fitness, Men’s Fitness, and Men’s Health. Dr. Paul provides nutritional consultation for the healthcare, technology, automotive, nutrition, and wellness industries and has been an invited keynote speaker at more than 200 conferences around the world. He regularly serves as a sports performance nutritionist for collegiate (NCAA Div. 1-III), Olympic (cyclists, speed skaters, rowers, biathletes) and professional athletes (National Hockey League – American Hockey League affiliates Adirondack Phantoms, Philadelphia Flyers and Adirondack Flames, Calgary Flames). Dr. Paul is President and CEO of PRISE LLC, a nutrition and fitness consulting company that owns the PRISE® App.

Dr. Paul is Director of the Human Nutrition and Metabolism Laboratory and Professor in the Health and Human Physiological Sciences Department at Skidmore College. He served as an Advisory Board member for the American Heart Association (Capital Region) for seven years. In addition, he is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Psychology & Neuroscience Department at Union College and has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Nutrition Department at Sage College. Dr. Paul received his undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1986, a M.Sc. in exercise physiology from Purdue University in 1987, and a M.Sc. in nutritional sciences from University of Vermont in 1993. He received his doctorate from Springfield College in 1993 with a specialization in nutrition and exercise science and completed post-doctoral fellowship training in applied physiology from Washington University School of Medicine in 1994.
